Welcome! I’m Jean.
Why I’m Starting This Blog
This is my first-ever blog post. My name is Jean, and I’m here to document my functional medicine journey and the things I decide to try, from finding the root causes of my specific symptoms to exploring alternative healing modalities.
My journey might be similar to yours, or it might be different, but in the end, we’re all trying to find what helps us feel our best in mind, body, and spirit.
First Things First
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is a personalized, systems-based approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and treating the root causes of disease rather than just managing symptoms. It considers the complex interplay of your genes, lifestyle, environment, and personal history to create a holistic treatment plan. Key aspects include detailed patient histories, comprehensive lab testing, and interventions like dietary changes, stress reduction, supplementation, and lifestyle modifications
I have my first appointment with a functional medicine practitioner coming up next week, and I’m curious to hear what she has to say. Going into this appointment, I feel excited to begin this journey toward a healthier lifestyle and, hopefully, to start feeling a lot better overall.
What I’m Dealing With
For some context, the main health challenges I’m currently navigating include:
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (an autoimmune condition)
Extreme constipation
Migraines
Stomach discomfort and constipation are my number one reasons I decided to start this journey, as they have had the biggest impact on my daily life.
What’s Next
I’ll check back in next week after my first appointment and share the details of what happened, what I learned, and what the next steps might look like.
Thanks for being here as I begin this process.
